Zustand meiner Füße spiegeln den Zustand meines Geistes !!! ( State of my feet determine the state of my mind) !!!   Phew !! What if such prophecies turn out to be true ??? The Kremlin, the Darkness and the Frogs

Kremlin was a room right in the middle of the corridor connecting the left and right blocks of the Men’s Hostel. It was also next to the stairs and to the doorway that led to the Mess. The strategic location was one of the probable reasons why one of the oldest civilizations in my college hostel had born, thrived and flourished there.   Like the ancient civilizations that thrived near rivers, civilizations in hostel thrived at strategic locations like that of Kremlin. Kremlin was an establishment, “A place where you find drunks at any given time’, hang out place , hide out place, civilization and a hostel room all at the same time. Kremlin was obviously not that from prehistoric times, at first it was like any other room in the hostel with green enamel painted doors (that was fun to peel off) and white washed walls. Room number was neatly stencilled in white paint and was painted over and re-stencilled every year, but that was of course before the frogs came. Kremlin wa...

Goat Life

It has been a long while at least a year since I have had the luxury of reading a novel at ease. I chanced upon some free time (by no means at ease, but still ..) and by greater chance I got hold of the much celebrated Malayalam novel Aatujiveetham ( Aadujiveetham actually , Goat Life ). My experience reading the book and finishing it one and a half sitting compares well to the description of the first (and the last) rain that Najeeb the protagonist experiences in an unknown part of the vast Arabian desert. At first the rain and the novel ushers in me a wave of fear and pain of not having experienced such a powerful yet familiar form of art for a long time. Then much like what the rain does to Najeeb, familiarity, joy and exhilaration returns and takes over the reins of the parched soul and the spirit. I had spent more than most of last year or so busy with the business of life leaving my spirits to the mercy of parched desert-like intellectual conditions and then comes a...

Renewables , Non- Renewables ; Dravid , Sehwag and other interesting popular preference comparisons

Conventional COE (Cost of Electricity) calculations based on engineering models typically indicate that cost-uncertain (unpredictable) non-renewable sources are more investment worthy than cost-certain renewables. Ofcourse for same reasons risky high yielding junk bonds appeal to the investors' imagination than low yielding secure treasury bonds (Not Greek ones and the newly announced Indian ones ??). On the same vein wouldn't in a fully TRP integrated Advertisment market - Ad slots before Sehwag comes into bat (when he used to) cost much more than when Dravid did (when he used to) ? getting closer to demystifying popular preference trends are we ?

Beyond Circles

Well the circles post was bit jinxed I guess, so here is an attempt at unjinxing. Circles are magical due to the sense of perfection that they exude and the mathematical wonders of well defined irrationality at their heart. However, moving forward is not an adventure that one can accuse the circles of .. So in the spirit of adventure and to break the jinx and to keep the habit here we go. What better way to look out than by quoting the great master Gödel. "God, by definition, is that for which no greater can be conceived. God exists in the understanding. If God exists in the understanding, we could imagine Him to be greater by existing in reality. Therefore, God must exist" .
